History of Churubusco and the Town of Clinton-Front Cover

Bloated Toe Publishing of Peru, New York, recently released History of Churubusco (6 x 9, 287 pp.), a new book by award-winning author Lawrence P. Gooley, along with three other titles that recently sold out.

The new book, Gooley’s ninth, details the history of both Churubusco and the Town of Clinton from 1845 to the present. Clinton once played a leadership role in the region’s potato business, the development of butter and cheese factories, and in the lumber industry, particularly at Clinton Mills.

Prominent Clinton natives include Thomas Burke, a founder of Washington State and the city of Seattle; M. William Bray, both confidante and able opponent of FDR, and three times elected as New York State’s lieutenant governor; and Jack Lagree, an important member of the US Olympic Bobsled Team.

Among the unusual subjects covered are the monks of Churubusco; an acclaimed faith healer; the Churubusco International Airport; and the Churubusco Live-In, a major rock concert scheduled to follow Woodstock.

The reprinted titles include Lyon Mountain: The Tragedy of a Mining Town; Terror in the Adirondacks: The True Story of Serial Killer Robert F. Garrow; and A History of the Altona Flat Rock, Silver Anniversary Edition. Terror in the Adirondacks has been a regional best-seller for the past thirteen months.

The books are available at Bill’s Bait & Beer in Brainardsville, Write One in Chateaugay, Dick’s Country Store in Churubusco, and online at books.bloatedtoe.com.
