NNY360, January 11, 2020—Author documents “Bullets, Booze, Bootleggers” on 100th anniversary of Prohibition: While growing up in Champlain, Clinton County, Lawrence P. Gooley was given some words of advice by his mother.

“There were some old-timers in town, of which my mom would say, ‘You shouldn’t be hanging around with those old bootleggers,'” he said. “And it turned out they were actually bootleggers. They had some great stories to tell.”

The tales were partially what inspired him to research and write, “Bullets, Booze, Bootleggers, and Beer: The Story of Prohibition in Northern New York, Volume 1 — 1920-1926.”

Adirondack Express, July 5, 2016—Big Moose Chapel lecture will be about Dannemora on July 12: A Town of Webb Historical Association presentation: “Escape From Dannemora: Breakouts, Tortures and Violence in Clinton Prison’s Past” (based on Lawrence P. Gooley’s latest book, Escape from Dannemora: 170 Years of Escapes, Tortures and Infamous Inmates at New York’s Most Notorious Prison) will feature an overview of Clinton Prison’s history including details of numerous escapes and attempts, routine punishments and profiles of famous and infamous inmates. The presentation will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12 at the Big Moose Community Chapel.
